Northern Lights in the South
On May 10th, 2024, an unusually strong solar storm caused a spectacular display of the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, to be visible across North Carolina. This rare event, the result of a G5 geomagnetic storm, painted the skies with greenish-pink hues as far south as the Carolinas, with clear sightings reported in places like the Blue Ridge Mountains and even Charlotte.
