What To Look For In Ultralight Fishing Lures
If you’re fishing ultralight techniques (typically 6 lb test line or so, and lures around 1/32 oz or so) here are four simple tips for ultralight lure selection that cover a variety of species (trout, panfish, small bass).
Small size & light weight: Many guides recommend lures in the 1/32 oz range or lighter for true ultralight.
Good action: Even small lures need a realistic wiggle, flash, or vibration to trigger strikes.
Match the forage: Use profiles that mimic the small baitfish, insects, larvae that fish are feeding on.
Versatility: Having a mix of hardbaits (minnows, crankbaits) and soft plastics/spinners gives you more options.
